Private Lessons Overview
Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Guitar, Voice, Singing, Flute, Clarinet & Saxophone
New Mozart offers exceptional music lessons to students 5 and up. Our private lesson students range from complete beginners to professional musicians.
Lessons are held year round and you can join us anytime during the year. There is no long term commitment though many of our students have been with us for years.
Our students come from all over the Peninsula including Menlo Park, Los Altos, Atherton, Redwood City, Mountain View and beyond. With our online lesson offerings available since March 16, we have students joining us from different parts of the United States.
We believe that private instruction is the best way for anyone to learn how to play an instrument. The one-on-one instruction means that students are given instruction that best suits how they as an individual learn and learn the types of music they personally are most interested in.
Private lesson allows our teachers to focus 100% of their attention on each student to ensure that things such as hand positioning, posture or understanding of a particular concept are correct.
If a student has a particular difficulty in one area, the teacher can work on it without hampering the progress of a class of students and alternatively if a student is excelling in one area, the teacher can move on.
New Mozart private lessons are taught by experienced music educators with bachelor, masters, and doctoral degrees in music. Our teachers are also extremely caring and are committed to ensuring that every student receives personalized instruction.
New Mozart students have been featured on Nickelodeon, Bravo, and Palo Alto Weekly, and every year our students excel in Certificate of Merit, ABRSM, Guild, Carnegie Hall Achievement, NATS, and ASTA Tests.
Though we have many students who are high music achievers, many of our students are taking lessons for fun and are not planning on performing at the Carnegie Hall. With an extensive line up of teachers with varied backgrounds and teaching styles, we are able to connect you with a teacher that suits your music learning goals.

Piano Lessons
New Mozart offers piano lessons to students of all ages and abilities from beginners to very advanced students.
We offer every style of piano lessons from classical to jazz and pop. We have students who want to play just for fun and students who excel with the Guild Auditions, Certificate of Merit, Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Achievement, & ABRSM exams.
As we have so many teachers on staff we are able to match students with a teacher that works best with their particular age, ability and interests. We start piano lessons from age 5 onwards.
Before age 5 we recommend our group piano based music program, Harmony Road or our pre-piano private lessons.
Our piano lessons are all private one-on-one instruction and lesson lengths are 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour. While our piano lessons are all private, parents are more than welcome to sit in on their child’s lessons.
For our advanced piano students we have teachers with master’s and doctoral degrees in piano who can prepare them for conservatory entrance or to complete their certification with the Guild Auditions, Certificate of Merit, ABRSM, and Carnegie Hall Achievement exams. Every year our piano students win various competitions and scholarships.
Voice Lessons
We have many students who take voice and singing lessons at New Mozart. Our voice lessons are all private on-one-one instruction.
Students sing all kinds of music from their favorite artists to classical arias.
Our voice teachers all have a university degree in music specializing in voice and sing everything from pop and jazz to opera.
New Mozart teachers all have performance backgrounds as well. Just a sample of what a student will learn in singing lessons includes how to breathe properly, how to increase their range, proper pitch, how to project and stage presence. New Mozart also offers 3 optional performance opportunities each year.
Our voice students have appeared on national TV (Bravo & Nickelodeon) as well as local musical theatre productions, opera productions and festivals.
We provide a professional accompanist who rehearses with the students and plays for them at the recitals.
Violin, Viola, & Cello
Lessons
Our strings program offers private instruction in violin, viola and cello.
Our private violin lessons start as young as age 5. Due to the size of the instrument, most cello lessons start at 6 years of age or older.
We have students of all ages from adults to children. For younger children we highly encourage a parent to sit in on the lesson to help the student at home with things such as posture and hand positioning.
Our violin, viola and cello teachers have university or college degrees in their instrument and many perform regularly with local orchestras or bands.
Basic restrictions are usually due strictly to the size of the child – e.g. hand size for piano or lung capacity for brass and woodwinds.
Our violin and cello students excel in ASTA exams and perform in various venues.
Guitar Lessons
Our private guitar lessons include acoustic, electric and bass guitar.
We have an excellent guitar teaching staff and teach guitar lessons in everything from rock to jazz, classical to pop, Spanish to chording.
Many of our teachers actively perform in bands and concerts throughout the Bay Area and beyond.
New Mozart's guitar teachers have university training so they know the proper theory and technique no matter if a student is interested in metal or in classical. Guitar lessons at our schools are enhanced by the opportunity of learning how to jam with other musicians in a rock band setting or how to perform solo in one of our recitals.
No matter what type of guitar lessons you are interested in, we have the teachers to help you.
Typically a student would be 7 before starting guitar lessons, due to their hand size, but some younger students start with a junior sized guitar.
HARMONY ROAD
If your child is younger than 5, we recommend our Harmony Road program. For over a decade we've been innovating how we teach piano to the youngest children in the Peninsula using this highly effective piano based group program to children 3-6. Developmentally appropriate and fun classes are taught by nurturing teachers with early childhood music background.
Students who have gone through Harmony Road are some of our most talented private lesson students.
Go to the Harmony Road page of our website here to find out more information.
Each year many of our students participate and excel in the following exams.
